Irreversible Thermodynamics at Surfaces: Inverse Edelstein Effect for Topological Insulator

چکیده
We employ Onsager’s irreversible thermodynamics (IrTh) to study the Inverse Edelstein effect (IEE) for a non-magnetic material (NM) adjacent topological insulator (TI) with strong spin-orbit interaction. The TI surface state region is treated as quasi two-dimensional (2d). For IEE, source 3d spin flux incident from NM that converts, at NM/TI interface, quasi-2d charge current in TI. Effect (EE), three-dimensional (3d) NM. coupling, considered here, when crosses 2d TI, produced along accumulation. (For weak production of and accumulation are distinct processes.) compute associated rates heating.

Spin injection and inverse Edelstein effect in the surface states of topological Kondo insulator SmB6
There has been considerable interest in exploiting the spin degrees of freedom of electrons for potential information storage and computing technologies. Topological insulators (TIs), a class of quantum materials, have special gapless edge/surface states, where the spin polarization of the Dirac fermions is locked to the momentum direction. This spin-momentum locking property gives rise to very...

Bismuth-chalchogenides are model examples of three-dimensional topological insulators. Their ideal bulk-truncated surface hosts a single spin-helical surface state, which is the simplest possible surface electronic structure allowed by their non-trivial Z(2) topology. However, real surfaces of such compounds, even if kept in ultra-high vacuum, rapidly develop a much more complex electronic stru...

There are alternative sets of postulates which yield entirely equivalent results for several important theories. In such cases the choice of a particular set of postulates may be based upon mathematical simplicity, close relationship to experiments or to the nature of the theory, or merely personal taste. While the postulate of conservation of energy is usually presented in similar form for the...
متن کاملObservation of inverse Edelstein effect in Rashba-split 2DEG between SrTiO3 and LaAlO3 at room temperature
The Rashba physics has been intensively studied in the field of spin orbitronics for the purpose of searching novel physical properties and the ferromagnetic (FM) magnetization switching for technological applications. We report our observation of the inverse Edelstein effect up to room temperature in the Rashba-split two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) between two insulating oxides, SrTiO3 and...
متن کاملMetal-Insulator Transitions at Surfaces
Various types of metal-insulator transitions are discussed to find conditions for which an ideal surface of a bulk insulator is metallic. It is argued that for the correlation-driven Mott metal-insulator transition the surface phase diagram should be expected to have the same topology as the phase diagram for magnetic order at surfaces: The corresponding linearized mean-field descriptions, a si...
